Transparency Policy Statement

This Road Commission believes that one of the fundamental underpinnings of democratic government is the concept that government serves the people. To that end, we support the concept that governmental agencies should operate in an open and transparent manner. This transparency will help to build and preserve positive relationships between the Road Commission and the public it serves; help to ensure accountability on the part of the agency; and help to foster credibility, sincerity and responsibility on the part of agency staff.

This transparency will include governing in an open manner through steps such as (but not limited to):

  • Complying with the Michigan Open Meetings Act and the Michigan Freedom of
    Information Act (FOIA);
  • Soliciting, receiving and seriously considering input from the public; as well as
  • Making publicly available important agency documents including those related to agency operation, service provision, decision making and financial management.

The Road Commission will continue to harness new technologies to make this information and these documents available to the public. It will also encourage members of the public to become
involved with their local governmental units, including this agency, through public input opportunities such as public hearings, board meetings, bid openings, etc.
