Open Position: Payroll Clerk

Overview:

  • Join the Osceola County Road Commission as a Payroll Clerk and play a pivotal role in managing our payroll operations. In this dynamic position, you will oversee all payroll-related duties, serve as the General Office Secretary, and act as the Accounts Receivable Clerk. Responsibilites:

  • Payroll Management: Post employee timesheets to the computer database, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Account for all employees accumulated sick and vacation leave earned and taken.
  • Document Preparation: Prepare payroll-related documents for approval by the Clerk and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Customer Service: Answer phone calls, greet visitors, and effectively handle public complaints. Direct inquiries and messages to the appropriate party.
  • Administrative Support: Perform additional duties such as preparing Road Commission correspondence, maintaining and organizing files, reconciling receipts journal, and conducting bank account reconciliation.
  • Team Collaboration: Support the Clerk and work closely with other departments, including the Manager and Engineer, to ensure seamless operations.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of one year of experience as a Payroll Clerk.
  • Skills: Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to work effectively and courteously with people, including handling public complaints professionally.
  • Attention to Detail: Capable of formulating accurate written documents and maintaining meticulous records.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work extended hours as needed.
  • Preferred: Prior payroll and computer experience with a focus on Windows-based systems is a plus.

Open Position: Mechanic

General Summary:

  • Maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment and keep records for the same.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment as needed.

Essential Job Elements and Physical Requirements

  •  Thorough knowledge of repairing, rebuilding, replacing gasoline and diesel engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, cooling systems, brake systems, hydraulic systems, transmissions, differentials, suspensions, welding and cutting fabrication, relating to heavy trucks and construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of MIOSHA rules and regulations pertaining to repair shops and safety equipment, and vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of motor carrier rules and regulations relating to trucks and their components.
  • Determines and reviews maintenance schedules of vehicles and equipment.
  • Assesses and determines needed repairs of vehicles and equipment and work with management on scheduling priorities of the same.
  • Maintains vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance records.
  • Prepare reports on all aspects of this position as directed by the road commission
  • Communicates orally in person, on a standard telephone, radios, and in written communications such as letters, memoranda, forms or other documents.
  • Bends, sits, turns, twists, pushes, pulls, lifts as much as 100 pounds, shovels, rakes, throws, climbs ladders and ramps when carrying out the functions of this position.
  • Attends training and workshops to stay current on vehicle repair and maintenance practices and requirements.

Desireable Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 2 years minimum in heavy truck and construction equipment maintenance and repair.

Certifications/Licensing Requirements

  • Maintain a valid Michigan Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), together with any  endorsements deemed necessary by the Employer and as required by state or federal law. 
  • Possess and maintain State of Michigan certification for Master Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic.

Open Position: Seasonal Road Maintenance Worker

General Summary:

Under the general direction of the Road Foreman, perform road construction and maintenance.

The  successful applicant shall be expected to exercise considerable independent judgment in successfully completing work assignments.

Equipment assigned daily may include: 

  • Standard Pick-up Truck, Tractor/Mower, Hotpatcher, Durapatcher

  • Surface maintenance, Asphalt patching, Shoulder Maintenance, Shoveling
  • Other Functions Deemed Necessary and Assigned

Essential Job Elements and Physical Requirements

The Seasonal/Part-time Road Maintenance Worker position is routinely in the field and will often  encounter adverse conditions where strenuous effort is required, and the following physical  requirements must be met. 

Mobility: Able to walk extended distances and climb ladders or steps to access  equipment and facilities. 

Agility: Able to lift, push or pull objects weighing upwards of 80 pounds, and to operate  equipment. 

Vision: Able to read and comprehend instructions, directions and other documents. Hearing/Speech: Able to converse orally with telephone or radio, and to receive and  communicate information to employees and the public. 

Other: Able to tolerate, be exposed to and work in extreme temperatures and  weather conditions.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Ability to deal with people effectively and courteously
  • Willingness to work extended hours, as necessary.
  • May be subject to random MDOT drug/alcohol testing as required by state or federal law.

Pay Rate

Rate of pay $16.00 per hour ($18 per hour if temporary employee has CDL license).
